Sunset Concerts are held Wednesdays in the area just east of Danford's and the ferry terminal on the performance stage, beginning at 6:30 p.m. rain or shine. The Port Jefferson Arts Council has been serving the northern Brookhaven area since 1986 and runs the Sunset series along with the Fiddle & Folk Festival and the Charles Dickens Festival. The 2026 Wednesday lineup runs Gail Storm on July 1, The New Students on July 8, Inda Eaton on July 15, The Haymakers on July 22, Cole Fortier on July 29, Eastbound Freight Bluegrass on August 5, The Hoodoo Loungers on August 12, and Gene Casey & The Lone Sharks on August 19.
Thursday is a completely different animal. The Village of Port Jefferson kicks off its Harborside concerts at the Show Mobile at Harborfront Park, 101-A East Broadway, with the Hootie & The Blowfish Tribute Band at 7 p.m., free, bring seating. Endless Summer, the Beach Boys tribute, follows on July 16. If you show up Thursday expecting the singer-songwriter texture of Wednesday, you will be surprised. If you show up Wednesday expecting an "Only the Good Die Young" singalong, same problem in reverse.
The practical read on this: Wednesdays are the night to bring a picnic and listen. Thursdays are the night to bring people who want to dance in front of a portable stage. Both are free, both are on the same lawn, and neither one asks anything of you beyond a folding chair.
Tuesday: Movies On The Harbor
Before the music week even starts, the park runs a Tuesday movie night. At 7 p.m. on select Tuesday evenings, Port Jefferson presents Movies on the Harbor, and the concerts take place outside if the weather is nice. If not, they move inside the Port Jeff Village Center, and concertgoers are encouraged to bring a picnic supper and their own blankets or lawn chairs.
The Village Center itself is worth pausing on. It is not a purpose-built pavilion. The Skipper's Reception for the Village Cup takes place in a restored 1917 shipyard building that today serves as the Port Jefferson Village Center, and that same building is the rain plan for essentially every outdoor thing that happens on the lawn. The park does not clock out on weekends. The Outdoor Summer Farmers Market runs Saturdays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Jeanne Garant Harborfront Park, 101 East Broadway. The 2 a.m. detail is the one that matters for residents. There has not been a real late-night kitchen in the village in years. Post-concert food used to mean a slice at The Pie or nothing.
Black Pearl at Danfords. Located inside Danfords Hotel & Marina at 25 East Broadway in Port Jefferson, the Black Pearl Seafood Chophouse is open Sunday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to midnight. For the 70-seat outdoor dining area, the team installed sleek new umbrellas and put in tables with expensive ipe wood, then re-sanded, repainted and refurnished the dockside tables to make it feel more like a vacation spot. Practical translation: the dockside tables are now a real reservation, not an overflow zone. If you want to eat outside with the ferry in view during a Sunset Concert intermission, this is the room.
Castaways. The former location of The Village Way, the completely renovated 2,900 square foot restaurant at 106 Main Street in Port Jefferson Village sports a nautical decor with mermaids, diving helmets, life preserver rings and an octopus chandelier. It is a five-minute walk from the Show Mobile, which puts it inside the useful radius for a Thursday tribute-band crowd that wants to sit down after.
Three openings in three years on the same half-mile of Main Street is not a trend piece. It is a signal that the Village's dining core is thickening at the price point that supports a two-drink dinner before a free concert, which is the exact economic engine that keeps the concert series alive.
The Bookend: Village Cup Regatta
The summer does not fade out. It ends on a specific Saturday. The 18th Village Cup Regatta is a friendly sailboat race between teams from Mather-Northwell Health and the Village of Port Jefferson. Crew members and captains gather at 9 a.m. in the lower Yacht Club lot next to Harborfront Park, and the Memorial Parade of Boats in remembrance of those lost to pancreatic cancer can be viewed from Harborfront Park beginning at 11 a.m., with all participating sailboats dressed in banners and nautical flags on their way out to the racecourse on Long Island Sound. Over the last 17 years, through the Village Cup Regatta, the Port Jefferson Yacht Club has raised over one million dollars to benefit the Lustgarten Foundation and the palliative care unit of Mather Hospital.
For residents, the regatta functions as the season's punctuation mark. You watch the parade from the same lawn where you sat through eight Wednesday concerts, and then the folding chairs go back in the garage.
